Sexual Market Value as Currency
Sexual Market Value (SMV) acts as a currency in the sexual marketplace, where male SMV is built through performance and can appreciate over time, while female SMV is inherent but declines with age and partner count, following evolutionary strategies.
THE IDEA
Currency within the market works as a medium of exchange. Starting from the position of a barter economy, imagine an apple farmer. Obviously, when apples are ripe, ready to be picked and sold, there is a large inflow of apples in the market. As apples have a limited shelf life, the farmer cannot keep the apples around until they go bad, as this would reduce their value to zero. Thus, he barters them for meats, eggs, corn and everything else he needs more than apples. However, he may have had many more apples than he could trade, and everything he could trade for, is perishable, so there is no way for him to store value over time.
Thus, people invented currency in order have a store of value that would not perish with time. This is why currency has taken the form of precious metals, gemstones and even actual rocks, because they do not lose their value in a short time like perishable goods do.
The closest we can come to currency in the sexual market place is sexual market value. As I outlined about a man building his equity, equity is another word for resources, of which money would be a part.
Male vs Female Currency
A man is born worthless, the world does not care if he is born or whether he lives or dies. He is but a mere pawn in the game of chess, and plays a non-important role in sexual reproduction. The reason for this is that one man may impregnate many females, and from the perspective of the survival of the fittest, it is preferable to ensure that only the worthy reproduce. As the man is born without value, he must build his value to prove that he is in-fact worthy of reproductive rights. If the traditional avenues of male coming of age are explored, they show that men must earn their reproductive rights in their community through grueling tests.
Male Spartans were thrown into the wilderness at 14, and it was accepted that only the worthy would survive the harsh Earth (16). This scene replayed itself all over the world, with men having to earn their keep in the reproductive market place. This is why males are described as companies throughout this book; their value starts very low but may reach the skies if mindful effort are applied to them.
This also means that male sexual market value is not a zero-sum case. One male increasing his SMV does not take away from all the others. Thus, the world can have many high SMV men. However, SMV for men is a relative metric. If the average male SMV were eight, then it would follow that the overall success of SMV-8 males would decline, due to female consumption preferences. The female consumption preference is also a relative metric, which targets the top 10 - 20% of producers regardless of value. Thus, if the average male SMV were eight, then eight would be the new five on a 1 - 10 point scale.
Male sexual market value may also be maintained long into old age, because of wealth, power or status, which is the way that the raw deal men are offered at birth, is made good to them. However, maintaining male SMV much like building it requires constant and conscious performance; men may never rest on their laurels. They must perform to a level that covers the replacement investment, and perhaps even have to increase their value if there is inflation at play.
Where female value declines rapidly and brutally, male value can be maintained.
Female Sexual Market Value
Females on the other hand are born with a high sexual market value, and are inherently valuable in the sexual market place. The reason why their sexual value curve starts quite low is that their value is discounted for the risk of time. A woman, who is not yet of reproductive age, may turn out to be barren, may die young or a myriad of other things, and thus her value is not immediately realized in the market. Therefore, females in the sexual market place take a form most similar to that of a financial instrument referred to as an "Option". Without going too deeply into the econometrics and formulae behind an option, an option is an instrument that allows you to bet on the future value of something else. The value of an option is dependent on the price of the instrument, the time to maturity, and the risk involved. A woman reaches her maximum sexual market value in her early to mid-twenties after which, her value declines towards inevitable infertility.
A female may perform to maintain her sexual market value for a longer period of time, for instance by staying in great shape and engaging in behavior that keeps her healthy and beautiful. However, her fertility is the ultimate ticking clock and from nature's perspective once she is infertile, her sexual market value drops drastically.
This is not to state that women have no value outside of their ability to bear children, but in a reproductive race, this is how nature has designed the ruleset. While sex is a pleasurable act in and of itself, the ultimate goal of sex from the perspective of nature is reproduction.
A Summary of Sexual Market Currency
In the Sexual Market Place, a person's sexual market value much as a person's money does in real life, determines options, price sensitivity, and influences your perception of scarcity and choice. A high SMV man or woman has access to higher quality partners, can engage in higher volumes of casual sex, are unlikely to go through long dry-spells and experience slightly different rules in the sexual market place than those of a lower SMV.
When you move to make a purchase in the sexual market place, your sexual market value is what determines whether a trade will be made or not. A high SMV woman is unlikely to go for a fling with a low SMV man, as this will not optimize her hypergamy, as the trade will not have an attractive risk vs reward balance. One could argue this as offering to trade 1 lb. of gold for 1 lb. of butter. Likewise, a high SMV man is likely to be able to trade with a high number of women in the SMP, because his value ensures that they get a good deal regardless.
One has to remember that even the lowest SMV woman is evolutionary programmed to seek out high quality sperm to father her offspring, and thus a one night stand with a genetically fit alpha male will help her achieve this goal. On the other hand, she is also programmed to avoid being saddled with the offspring of the low value male, which would also have a negative effect on her ability to secure offspring and/or provision from the high value male later. Even though contraception has improved much in the past 100 years, our evolutionary programming has not caught up.
From the perspective of the female, she has two sexual strategies, where one is short-term where the goal is to secure high value genetics from a male. The other one, the long-term strategy is to compromise genetic quality if need be, in order to secure resources for herself and her offspring. These are not dichotomous strategies, as a woman may engage in her short-term strategy intermittently while also executing her long-term strategy. The word for this is cuckolding, which is a situation where a female mates with a higher value male and deceives her provider male as to the paternity of the offspring.
To summarize, male SMV is a function of the performance burden, and thus can continue to pay dividends until a man's death, provided the investments throughout a life have been substantial enough to last for such a long period. The female SMV is a function of biological birth, and while small investments can be made to improve/maintain it, it is not a stable store of value.
The unique function of currency in the sexual market place is that for men it is not diminished by engaging in trade it appreciates. Female SMV on the other hand loses value when traded in within certain context. This stems from the SLUT/STUD dichotomy, that by many is viewed is treating the genders unequally. Namely that a man's value increases the more partners he has had, while the stock of a female goes down the more partners she has had. Studies have shown that females with a higher number of partners have a higher divorce risk (6), another study found a correlation between substance abuse and partner count among women (7) thus, this appears to be sensible.
However, perhaps a more interesting observation comes from the different natures of female and male sexual market value, namely that female value is largely inherent, and male value is built. Even if male sexual market value was to decline with the number of partners, this could be remedied through increased performance. Such is not the case for females.
Secondly, it follows that a high sexual market value (and thus performance burden) must be filled by the man in order to reach a high number of partners; his partner count is a proxy measurement for his sexual market value. Thus, it becomes somewhat circular, as a man with a high sexual market value has many partners; a man with many partners has high sexual market value.
Thirdly, as females are in the role of sexual gatekeeper within our species, it follows that a female with a high partner count is failing at her primary task (12). Another central reason for the emergence of the SLUT/STUD dichotomy is the desire of a male to be certain of the paternity of his children, the reasoning being that her past actions is a good gauge for her future actions (19).
Fourth, both male and female SMV are relative measures in the same manner that what constitutes a wealthy person may change between Monaco and Minnesota. Among those of little wealth, a millionaire is a rarity, but among the millionaires, the billionaire is rarity. Thus, both male and female sexual market value will be dependent on those by which they are surrounded. A female of high SMV and beauty within a small Midwestern town, may find herself with a mediocre SMV when surrounded by women from Los Angeles or Miami.
When to use it
A man deciding between focusing on career advancement versus pursuing multiple casual relationships to increase his SMV.
A woman considering the trade-offs between long-term relationship security and short-term genetic quality in partner selection.
Understanding why high-status older men often attract younger women, while older women may struggle in the dating market.
Explaining the double standard regarding promiscuity: why men with many partners are valued while women with many partners are devalued.
FROM THEORY TO EVERYDAY LIFE
In practice
Apple Farmer Analogy
Just as an apple farmer must barter his perishable apples for other goods, leading to the invention of currency as a store of value, sexual market value serves as a medium of exchange in mating markets. Men must build and maintain their SMV to attract partners, while women's SMV is like an option that matures and then declines.
Male Spartans
Spartan males were thrown into the wilderness at age 14 to prove their worth. Only the worthy survived, demonstrating that males must earn their reproductive rights through tests. In this account, male SMV is built, not inherent.
